On Sunday, 27 December 1998, the fourth decentralised domino world championship took place.

The 55 participants in the 1998 world championship at eight locations showed that this world championship has become only a German-Swiss (with one Norwegian, after all!) affair. Despite announcements from Norway, South Africa and the USA, no results were sent in from there. The task for all dominoites should be clear: The message must be spread again!

Once again, the winter camp participants narrowly missed disqualification. Although a proven internet expert was among them, the results were entered on lousy all-round lists that barely mentioned the teammates by name …

We would have liked to disqualify Alex Klee again, but we couldn't think of a reason.

Some respectable successes went to Vechta. Apparently, the coach there, Andreas Dierks, urgently needs to be replaced. It became clear that one game per quarter, with eight players and maybe ten dominoes, cannot be sufficient preparation. There were even minus values here at the World Championships!

The defending champion Roswitha Siedelberg deserves a lot of credit for competing again, which cannot be said of her other predecessors.
