On Saturday, 27 December 1997, the third decentralised Domino World Championship took place. There were 13 groups with a total of 65 players playing at 9 locations in Norway, Germany and Switzerland. The youngest participant (11 years old) had the best nerves and came out on top in a commanding manner. After the secret of Norway's playing strength was revealed in 1996 on the Faroe Islands, a Norwegian hat-trick was thus also prevented.

Although the gender ratio is almost balanced with 31 female and 34 male participants, a woman won the title for the third time:
1995: Anne Marie Hartvigsen
1996: Sigrid Sagevik

Nine players entered the world ranking for the first time, five others celebrated a comeback, among them the 1995 European Champion Chris Währen. GM Alex Klee, who hit the name of his JUVENTE group with his rank, was praised for his pinpoint accuracy.

Thank you to the Bader family, whose head Walti not only gracefully stepped down from world ranking No. 1 for the World Championship, but also provided the room, fax and computer centre, as well as sandwiches.
