13th Domino World Championship 2007
Alex Joss is Domino World Champion 2007!
This year, the same number of participants as last year was reached again: a total of 80 players from six countries played for the World Cup title in Norway, Germany, Slovakia and Switzerland.
For the second time in FIDO history, the title went to a participant from the JUVENTE winter camp in Bielefeld – from which Ole Stein and Frank Fehring also made it into the top ten.
Domino strongholds Garbsen and Grenchen finished 2nd and 3rd with Matthias Nolting and Andrea Krebs, and 4th place with Bino Nolting and 5th place with newcomer Marc Massaro, making him the best new player of the World Cup.
The current World Champion had first encountered the game of dominoes at the 2004 EGTYF Congress in Slovakia. The occasional player managed to win two of the three World Championship rounds – both of them by a large margin – which eventually helped her win the title.
The central evaluation took place this year in Zvolen, Slovakia, where the participants of a seminar of the European youth organisation ACTIVE on the topic »Minorities and Gender: Equality Reality?« provided 10 fellow players, many of whom got to know Domino for the first time directly at the World Cup.
Of the 13 world champions so far, 8 are female, which means that equality seems to have been achieved, at least in Domino.
